Question Rotella 85-140 gear oil???

Has anyone used this? Is it any good? Should I use an additive with it for my anti-spin?

Sorry for all the questions but I have both of my Mag-Hytec's ready to go and have been shopping around for fluid and MAN is it pricey! I saw this at Wal Mart and it was VERY reasonably priced! HERE is a link to the info for the oil. Any info would be great, thanks...

It is not the weight recommended. Also, I didn't look but the requirement is for a Syn GL-5. No additive is required for the AAM 11.5.

It is GL-5, but not synthetic, so no go. I know the right stuff is at least $10/quart and that the Mag-Hytec covers hold a lot of it, but new gears or bearings are much more pricey!

That Rotella is GL-5 but I don't know if it's synthetic?

Some of us have gone to the 140 weight to help with chattering, but it's not the recommended weight. Also, the additive is not used in the AAM axles. But again, some have added it for chattering. The additive was used in the Dana axles with limited slip.

Run 75-90 synthetic unless you have a problem.

which one did you choose?

I have my new PML covers ready too. So the important thing is the GL-5.
So do you all think the 80w-90 would be ok here in Virginia? How many quarts are you buying RRC ?

I'd go with the 75-90 Syn if you are planning on keeping your truck for a while. It costs more, but you don't have to change it as often as Conv 80-90, and you don't have to worry about overheating it esp w/your PML.

Important was the Synthetic GL-5 rating.. What Dodge requires, and it is what the Mopar Gear oil for our trucks is rated at... I would definately stick with the synthetic stuff.

GL-5 synthetic

Cool, the 75w-90 is synthetic? I should have known that, its wider viscosity range. I will do that. I think Valvoline makes that weight as well. Thanks !!

Mobil, Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mopar and I am sure others make the recommended weight 75W-90 in a Synthetic GL-5...

Believe it or not the orginal fill for that dif was a syn oil. So the dealer is also a good source for the correct fluid.

I believe AAM is recommending 75/140 in the 11.5 now, there is a lenghty post on this and one of the Dodge techs posted the new spec.
Not that it matters, but I have been running dino 80w90 made by Lubrication Engineers, I swapped it when I put my Mag-Hytec cover on at 2k miles, 30k on the truck now and not a spec of metal on either of the magnets and fluid color is still bright cherry red, that includes over 10k miles of towing a 15k 5ver.

Well I just got home from Auto Zone. Bought all they had of Mobil1 70-90 gear oil. I will have to go back when they get some more to do both front and rears w/ the MH covers. Anyone see any issues with running this front AND rear between 30-100+ degree heat towing 16k-18k pounds?

The update to use 75/140 was for the smaller rear ends in the 1/2 ton trucks and not the 3/4 and 1 tons with 10.5 and 11.5 diff's. Dodge still recommends 75/90 for trucks with 10.5 and 11.50 rear ends.
