revolutions

How do I find out how many revolution a mile my tires go around? The Dodge guys at the garage were unsure on how to do this....
I have 35 x 12.5 x 17 pro comps.
What is the formula?
the correct answer is between 400 and 900 rev per mile.

The easiest way (without math) I've found is to go to www.tirerack.com and look up the specs on the tire.

If you've got a calculator and tape measure, measure the circumference. Convert that number into feet and divide it into 5280. That'll be close enuf for govt work. pi*d works for circumference too, but there's more guess work due to the contact patch on where you measure it from.

You're guess between 400 and 900 rev's/mile is spot on. I'd put my money on 600 too.

Thumbs down

tire size 35 in. times 3.1416=109.965 Divide by 12=9.163
5280 divided by 9.163= 576.23 r p m.
If my math is right

But 35's aren't really 35's.

According to tirerack, BFG 37/12.5/17's are 574 revs/mile - note that the dia is really 36.3". I'll still stand by the 600.

Sort of like when the queen realizes that rulers aren't necessarily 12".

Revolutions per mile

The way I do it is to mark the tire on the bottom part of the sidewall closest to the ground with a vertical line and mark the road at the same point as you do the tire. Then drive the vehicle forward or backward one revolution. Mark the road again and the take a tape measure and measure the distance between the 2 marks on the road. This is about as accurate as you can get.
