Replacement of Fuel Filter
Replacement of Fuel Filter
I'm going to replace my fuel filter this weekend and was wondering if anyone can give me any tips or things to look out for. I've never done this before.
Thanks,
Steve

I just did mine a few weeks ago, do a search there are plenty of threads discussing it and some with pics. It's nice to do it with the truck cold so you don't burn yourself
Basically just unscrew the cap and pull it and the fuel filter up and out of the housing. Drain the housing into a container by opening the lever on the bottom of the filter housing. Remove the old o-ring on the cap. Lube new o-ring with diesel fuel, reverse everything till it's all together. Be sure the lever is back to closed, then turn the key to on but not start, and let the filter prime for 20-30 secs, and crank it up. Good luck, should take you 10mins.

Easiest thing you'll ever do...all you need is an 1-1/8" deep socket and a ratched. Light years easier to change than the fuel filter on a Duramax...helped my buddy do his and hit my knees when we were finished to thank the good Lord for not letting me buy a Duramax!!! Wow, that thing was a pain to get to and a real nightmare to get threadded. It took us over an hour to get it completed whereas the Cummins takes me less than ten minutes. For Christmas, I told my buddy I'd let him change my fuel filter so he could see how easy it was on a Cummins....
I think someone just posted some pics of the process a week or so ago. Try browsing thru the 3rd gen forums, the title should jump out at you.
Bu like said above, its not that difficult. Once you pull the filter out, drain the bowl and clean the WIF sensor by wiping it down. Close the valve, reinsert filter with new gasket, tighten the top and cycle the fuel pump a few times to fill up the fuel bowl. After cranking over for a bit she'll fire right up. Check for leaks and you're done.
