Removing fuel tank

Anyone have any advice on the best method to remove the fuel lines from the top of the tank? Having an impossible time getting the center line removed.

There is no easy way to remove those fuel lines since there is so little room to access that area.

Some guys will remove all the bed bolts and then lift the bed up to get some room in there.

IMO, dropping the fuel tank is much easier but you will have to empty most of the fuel out which is easy to do.

Have several clean buckets handy depending on how much fuel is in the tank. Place one under the water drain on the fuel filter cannister and open the water drain.
Keep bumping the engine with the ignition key without starting the engine. The lift pump will run for about a minute at a time to pump fuel out the water drain which will drain into the buckets.
Loosen the vent hose and inlet hose. Spray penetrating oil on the fuel tank strap nuts. Drop the tank enough to access the fuel lines and electrical connections.

While you have the fuel tank out perform the tank vent mod: https://www.glacierdieselpower.com/i...f=category:112

I already have the injectors out at this point... but I just removed the fill hose at the fuel tank and dropped a siphon hose in and drained into the 5gal can I had and transferred that into a 55gal drum in the bed. Unfortunately, the tank was over 3/4 full when I parked it just over 2 years ago. The fuel is probably fine but I don't want to run the risk with the brand new injectors. Also, want to inspect the tank and make sure no bacterial growth took hold during that time. Probably overkill, but, better safe than sorry. It also allows me to do the vent mod during this removal.

I'm planning on getting one of the Vulcan fuel modules without the pump as I still have the canister mounted pump on my truck and will likely upgrade to either a FASS or AirDog at some point. Not sure how much life is left in that old pump as I believe it is the original factory pump with just over 203k miles now. I hope it will hold out long enough to afford the upgrade.

You can see how much debris is still in the bottom of the module and this was after cleaning it. This older 98-02 style tank module is impossible to take apart and clean.

Accidentally tore the mesh screen around the supply pickup removing this from the bottom of the module. There was quite a bit of crap on the screen. This was also after attempting to clean it.

There wasn't much in the way of debris in the tank itself. The black marks appear to be some kind of stain that doesn't come off easily.

I forgot to take pictures before cleaning the outside of the tank, both vents were covered in dirt and grime.

The top vents are the older non-protected style that allows dirt to collect around the valve. You can see where some dirt has started to go inside the barded end. I plan on adding some hose to the vents and directing them down between the heat shield and tank to keep dirt out.

The top of the sender unit was very dirty. I forgot to take before pictures. You can still see some of the dirt on the locking ring as I hadn't cleaned it completely yet.
