Need help getting fuel tank out
Need help getting fuel tank out
Truck been sitting for 2 years.
Taking tank down to clean
How do I get the two fuel lines off? I tried squeezing in. but can't get them off. Anyone have a trade secret? Pretty hard to reach
Also there is a short plastic piece with nothing attached to it. What should attach?
Thanks for the help.

Push the line and the white plastic piece on then while holding the plastic piece in pull the line off. Sometimes easier to pull a few line holders off the frame and let the tank down to see what you are doing. Nothing goes on the blank elbow
you have to :
You probably won't find much in there (other than bad fuel), as both trucks I've done were sparkling clean.
Good luck

BTW,
The rubber seal on the filler tube should be sprayed with WD or another lubricant prior to pulling it out, as you tear the seal without some lubricant (don't ask me how I know this) but it's still avail from Dodge.
- remove the filler tube
- Loosen the strap bolts
- Put Floor jack below tank touching bottom of tank with wood slab between to stabilize (my preference) remove bolts
- slowly lower the tank with a floor jack making sure the fuel lines where they're strapped to the frame come down without kinking the lines.
- as the tank comes down, you can pull the two hoses (squeeze both sides of the connector @ the same time (can be difficult) DO NOT FORCE THEM, as you will break them. Rotating them may be useful with removal
- disconnect the fuel sending wire connection
- When tank disconnected, fully lower tank and slide it out.

Thanks NJTMan and gyman98,
Okay, I got the tank out. I'll have it cleaned. I need to replace the fuel sender.
Still can't get those lines off! Probably not a good idea but I was squeezing the connector with needle nose pliers. I'll give it another go tomorrow. About ready to unbolt the bed!
Cheers

Don't squeeze the tabs too hard, as you'll prevent it's removal.
Change the seal on the tank sender as well. You have it apart, and $8 wont break the bank
Part numbers for my 92.... make sure you check to ensure compatibility
Seal:52018808
sender 52017992

Hang on to that RED fuel pre-screen. It's unique to the diesel application (gas is green if I'm not mistaken).

It snaps on and off exposing the fuel pick-up valve float (don't break them
).
