Remove Egr Valve

helllo,

I was just wondering. I have a question concerning our 600/610 trucks that are supposedly california legal. My question is, is it possible to remove the Egr valve on these engines. The reason why I ask is because I HAVE HAD SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH THIS TRUCK. They have replaced injetors fuel pressure regulators, they have done TSB after TSB. I am to the point of buying the tools and working on it myself like i did my 12 valve and mu 2000 24 valve. They told me last time that it keeps blowing some kind of seal around the EGR Valve which then cuases the truck to lose power. It also runs rough around 1200-1700 rpm it sounds like the timing is de-advanced but no white smoke though. I thought if i could eliminate the EGR then there would be no more seal to blow. I am soory I do not know much about this engine. I am good mechanic and capable of complex compenant replacements and diagnostics but this truck is at38,000 miles and runs like *&%^$#@. This truck currently has no mods and is in my sig. Any info on this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks TY

Yeah, whoever is telling you the nonexistent egr is causing your problems is either retarded (de-advanced) or ripping you off. Now, starting with the '07 model year, they will finally have egr.

No Egr?????

No I am not driving a ford 6 litre. My buddy has one and he blows the seal out on his EGR valve ever 6 months or so it makes water come out the tailpipe. WEll that figures I don't No where Chrysler gets some of these service people but they're real winners. The service Dept Manager at this dealer in NM is who told me about the EGR valve. I think i am going to buy a book and a scan tool for this truck and do my own work. I want more power out of it anyway. Does anyone know of a good place to get a book? The last one I bought was a haynes for the 94-02 trucks. It seemes to be pretty detailed even in major componant replacements, such as injection pumps or the seal change between the vacuum pump and the PS pump, found it at a parts house. Thanks for the input.

Ty

Didn't the Kalifornia version of the SO Cummins (235hp) had the EGR?

All of these trucks are the same, the only thing that makes them a Kalifornia truck is they get a smog test at the factory and put a sticker on the truck.

The 600 series is a 50 state legal engine. If there was an egr valve there would be threads in the 3rd gen. Performance about removing/blocking an egr.

It's just a guess, but I'll bet your dealer is talking about the Pressure Relief Valve. He is just using the wrong terminology. Do a search on this and you will see a bad PRV may cause the problems you are describing.

Also, I agree with what the others said. Find a dealer that knows the CTD.

Thanks for all the input guys .. The only other concern i have is how do all of you with so many mods get warranty work done at these dealers. I am terrified some one will void my warranty. I am wanting to put a van haken 3.2 and an exhuast with some guages and an aem intake on this truck but still concernced what will happen if I take it in for warranty work.
