Red line

Does anyone know what redline is for the SO Calif. engine is I've searched thru owners manual all they say is not to overrev. The tech said my vibration was due to high revs and redline is 3000rpm. My tach has red hash marks starting at 3200rpm but I thought redline is actually 3500. Anybody know for sure?

I know for sure that you are gaining nothing but excess stress on the engine by reving to 3500 rpm Look at any of the dyno prints and you will see power (fueling) cuts off way before that. Do your engine a favor and shift at 2000 under normal conditions and no more than 3000 under extreme conditions.

Mine has those red numbers starting at 3200 as well; I have no reason to think DC meant otherwise. Do you think DC is trying to protect us for our own good? In reality, thats what redlines are supposed to do.

If DC felt comfortable with a redline at 3500 I would think that thats where they would start the red markings at.

Irregardless what you think the redline is at, for warranty purposes and knowing that the big brother ECM is watching (and probably storing) your every move, I'd keep it under 3200.

Mine rarely even sees 3000 rpm.

The reason I was asking when I took it in for the recall I told them about the vibration at 60mph in tow/haul the tech wrote on the order vibration due to high rmp 2700rpm redline is 3000. I don't know whose truck he was driving at 60mph in tow/haul my turns 2400rpm so this guy is

Fueling is not cut until 3500. Peak power is at 2,900 so the redline was placed at 3,200. Sometimes when hauling heavy loads downhill you can get into the over 3,200 rpm scenario, but when accelerating there is no reason to go past the rpm which produces the highest horsepower, unless you are trying to match the rpm of the next gear to the rated speed. If you are doing that though, you need to buy the next size up tow vehicle.

However, I agree with you. You should be able to operate the engine at 3,200rpm from the moment you buy it until the warranty runs out at 100,000 miles without incident.

I run mine on redline all the time. Been doing it for 55k miles. Haven't had a single issue with it yet. Mine redlines at 3200 as well.
