Is red dye fuel bad?
I dont quite follow some of the posts about how were not allowed to discuss things we do to our trucks on here(like running red diesel). So we're not allowed to dicuss hundreds and hundrerds of posts about how smarty, bully dog, etc reprogram the ECM to run outside of the manufactures EPA approved programs? Or how I have yet to ever see you guys stick in a set of F1 injectors that have a CARB EO#. Look im not trying to bust anyones chops here, I just feel its kind of hypocritical for the guys on here to say no talking about taking off a Cat(DPF filter). An then turn around and talk about sticking on a compound with a set of stage 23 injectors.........dont make sense to me.
for the record i do all kinds of crazy stuff to my truck and street car I just dont tell people.......ewwwwwwwwww were not allowed to talk abou that

There are plenty of legitimate users of off-road diesel and all of them are interested in quality fuel. I use dyed fuel in my boat (Volvo turbo engine about like the first gen Cummins). Lots of time the off-road diesel has no dye in it at all. I just get it for about 18 cents less per gallon. The dye isn't going to hurt anything. It's the same as on-road diesel fuel but with the dye.
I run dyed fuel, but to bring up another legal point, I believe if you have plates (license) on your truck, you have to run clear (taxed) fuel regaurdless if you are on or off the highway. Could just be a Montana law as well.
Understand that red deyed (Off-Road) diesel is manufactured and sold intentionally for use in off-road/heavy equipment. It is my understanding that this fuel is produced to contain a higher sulfur content than other fuels. Perhaps even pumped off of the bottom of fuel settling tanks. It is not good fuel to run in vehicles in my opinion, unless they are much older diesels. I have a friend that is doing a lot of travelling for a good cause. To help him out, another friend allows him to fill up his aux. tank at his shop. This is off-road diesel intended for use in heavy equipment and dyed red and non-taxed fuel. Not legal. But the disclaimer being laid down, my buddy has gone through a couple of fuel pumps and several injectors in his duramax. Maybe the vehicle, maybe the fuel. As others have stated, I wouldn't run it in my truck. $50K for a truck is a lot of money to throw away to save a few buck on fuel. My $.02 worth anyway..
In the US, I think the law is anything that can be registered/insured to run on the road can't use dyed.
I have never heard/seen evidence of problems
directly resulting from running dyed diesel.
I realize this, and yes, I have farm plates, but that doesn't mean you can only use it in the truck when pulling a plow. Driving down the highway to get farm parts, no matter how far, is perfectly legal, here anyway and I believe SK is the same.

no.. Its about a tablespoon of dye per 300 gallons of fuel.
