rearend dodge/chevy

Does dodge and chevy have the same rearend in both diesel versions? I have read on here and i noticed alot of people thought both ways and nobody said for sure.

If I'm not mistaken, they are both AAM 11.5s but the internals are a little bit different.

New Venture, now New Process, was a joint venture. AAM was a captive GM supplier, now a separate public company. Wouldn't be surprising if the 10.5 and 11.5 14 bolts look the same btwn GM and Chrysler but have minor differences; not sure how to find out for sure without dissecting a couple or good luck getting AAM to divulge that info.

Why would you want to use a GM GovBomb in your Dodge? Most GM guys want to get rid of those.

From what I've been told, the differences between the Dodge AAM 11.50 and the GM AAM 11.50 is the size of the brake rotors and the limited slip diff. It used to be a popular mod to put the limited slip diff from the GM rearend(which is NOT a GovBomb, BTW) into the Dodge rearend. The limited slip diff in the GM AAM 11.50 is a Torsen type whereas the Dodge version is a clutch pack type. I hope this helps you out a bit.

You are mistaken.

The Dodge is the one with the torsen style "Trac-Rite GT" diff. http://www.aam.com/index.php?s=49&item=99

The GM G80 is indeed the dreaded Gov-Bomb....although the 11.5 may be better the the earlier design. My scrap barrel is full broken ones, if that's any indicator of thier durability.

I like to see a pic

I've replaced several from the 8.5 rear end (which is undersized to begin with) but I've never seen a broken one from a 9.5, 10.5 or 11.5

I'm not saying the Eaton is the strongest unit but it flat works as designed.

The TracRite certainly has it's own limitations.
