Thanks hounddog. I just got it back and so far(only about 30 miles) no sign of wetness at all. Evrything looks, feels and drives the same. I am very **** and pick things apart so I looked it over good. The only thing I noticed is that 2 of the 4 torx screws that hold the drive shaft to the yoke seemed to be a little reamed out so I don't know how easy they will be to get out next time.

The tech that worked on my truck is one of the only two I will let work on it. He has been around for a while and is a super nice guy that knows his stuff.
He already said if it had any signs of leaking he would do it again and also replace the yoke. He has offered me much advice and pointed me in the right direction on some mods and future upgrades. I am more than happy with this guy and the way he treats me.

I guess I am just so used to doing the preload the other way. I guess that is usually because the axles and wheels are off the race car already.

thanks guys and good luck to those with leaks, I hope that you have a service department and tech like I am lucky enough to have local.

...the latest on my story.

Waited a week for a dealer appointment and took a day off from work to make it easier to leave the vehicle there. When I made the appt I specifically asked if they had the seal or if they should order it before I leave my truck. They said "no problem" Well... they had no issues replacing the seal under warranty but they just called to let me know they needed to special order the part and they can't do the work until next week.

Are my expectations too high? Why in the world do they accept an appointment to do work they can't start AND take 5 hours to tell me they can't start it? Seems like a complete waste of my time and theirs.

Thanks for letting me vent , I feel better now.

Cause they ASSUMED they had a seal and it was 5 hours before the tech got to your truck and went to parts to get one. After he ordered a seal and did his paperwork he pulled a ticket on another vehicle and so on.

I just had my front and rear seals replaced yesterday FWIW. The front was just seeping, but the back was dripping. At 27 k miles, I'm not real impressed. It has been leaking since about 10k, but I just let it go. This is just yet another step closer for me to sell this truck and go back to Toyota. I have not had any major problems, but I have had more problems with this truck in the first 18 months then I did with my previous 2 trucks in 11 years. Flame me if you want, but in this price range I expected more even though I had been warned not to have the same high expectations as I had gotten used to.

yeah I know HOW it happened... I guess I can even understand why they wouldn't always check for parts before a truck was on the lift - who knows what all you might need. Still, they're two for two with me on warranty. Twice I've told them what the problem was, and twice I asked them to be sure they had a part before I take the truck in. "no problem" they say... now twice it's taken two trips because we're waiting on the part I told them to please get first.

I agree actually. Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE the truck for what it can do - but... the kind of pesky failures I've had in 2 years are what I'd expect at 100K+ miles, not 20-30K. At least the problems have not left me on the side of the road (or worse... on the side of the road with a 5 ton RV in tow).

I'd talk about jumping ship to a "reliable" brand, but for towing heavy there are none I know about.

They get REAL busy sometimes. From what I'm told at least in these parts as of Tuesday morning the flood gates opened up on service depts. No excuse as the TWO or THREE times in and parts ordered plagues EVERY manufacture or at least the ones I've deldt with.(Manufacture PICK surveys apart BUT the same old crap happens time after time)I use to print copys of the tickets and as best as I could check on parts before the appt day etc.BUT you(service writer)gets lectured about the TECH has to LOOK at it first.Dog chasing its tail. Its NOTHING new. I've handled diff. seal repairs on EVERTHING I've handled under warranty.Nissan,Isuzu,Mazda,G.M.,D.C.nothing NEW there eaither. As well as seals the yokes(leaking where welded and made)As I said NO excuses BUT some of you laymen need to work/hang out in a BUSY service dept a few days.Deal with waiting in LINES at the part counter, deal with parts MEN with numbers being changed and up graded etc.Its ONE of the MOST nerve racking jobs next to a cop or air traffic controller. You have NO idea.
