Rear Axle Stutter, left only

A few months ago I noticed a very minor stutter when pulling my horse trailer from a dead stop into a left turn. I checked right and nothing, only left. There was none either way without a trailer load. I expected it was a bit of rear end clutch pack stutter and didn't pay serious attention to it.

It seems to have "developed" and now I get it without a load. Is this the sign of diff failure or just a bit of chatter I have to live with? Its really not that bad, more annoying than concerning.

The first RE oilchange was at 50-60Km by me with Mopar oil and the last was at 100-110km by a dealer I trust (rare I know) just days before I first noticed it. I have about 4000km on between the first time and now that its happening without a load.

Any thoughts?

Yep.Lots do that.Mine did with Amsoil Severe Gear oil.Add some posi traction fliud modifier do it.One bottle.Dosen't need to be Mopar.I bought some at Auto Zone or what not. These AAM axels are SUPPOSE to not need or benifit from it but by jimmy they do.I traced a shudder like yours and it got worse for a month or more and it was posi shudder/chatter.There are some other posts/threads over time about such if you want to do a SEARCH on this site and read more. But go buy a less then $10.00 bottle of the stuff and slide under the truck and put it in the pumpkin.Shudder will go away in a few minutes of driving.

Thanks HD. I apologize to all for posting wthout searching. Hadn't had my coffee yet.

I checked back to my dealer receipt and #5010320AA lube is listed from the last change. Anyone know if that is 75-90 or 75/140? Just curious as we only tow light with rare heavy loads so it will do until next change. I'l try a bit of additive to see if it helps and try 75/140 next time w/o adder. If it helps now, I'll change on interval and only add if needed.

I didn't mean that.Just meant I'm not nuts about using the pois additive in a AAM unit that should not need it.AAM engineer told me it would NOT do a darn thing in one of their units and was not EVER needed. But it fixes the shudder just like in a Dana with clutch's.

The friction modifier should cure it. We've noticed exactly what you described without it, and it worked to get rid of it!

I understand why it shouldn't be needed by reading the info available on here but if this is a quick, cheap and easy fix.....You don't get QCE very often on new vehicles.
