For what it's worth, there is a TSB on fuel filtering for our 5.9L engines. Here's the link

spoke to baldwin tech support, and he said 5 microns means just that, that it will filter down to 5 microns and will filter better and outperform the 7 micron fleetguard filter in all tests, including single pass filtration. also said that the reason for the bulletins in which cummins recommends fleetguard filters, and how they meet cummins specs, is that fleetguard is owned by cummins filtration, and they would obviously like you to use their filters.

chipmonk,

Thanks for talking to Baldwin and passing on this info to everyone. I kind of thought Cummins always said to use only Fleetguard because they own Fleetguard.

I cant really compare to baldwin, but in comparisson to Donaldson filters, Fleetguards are better quality. Donaldson has proven to be inferior to both CAT brand filters and Fleetguards. We've seen engine oil filters fail and blow off, hyd. filters come apart and fail, etc. Problems we never had with Cat or Fleetguards the company I work for used to use.

not a problem- i'm glad i could clear this up, as i was feeling a little uneasy myself, having used the baldwin 5 micron filters since the truck was new.
