What's all the hype about?

What's all the hype about the EDM injectors? ???

What's the benifits of EDM's over say a set of DD3's or BD3's?

Why are they more expensive?

Inquiring mind(s) want to know. ;D

Don't know about the EDM's, but I like your signature.

I said no to stacks a long time ago, my exhaust dumps under the truck.

I figure I catch enough garbage about driving a redneck truck as it is.....

EDM and DD injectors atomize fuel very well. Bully Dog injectors don't atomize as good (more smoke, less power).

So EDM's are no better than DD injectors? ???

Then why are they more $$$$$$?

I'm just not seeing it. :- :-

I believe it's the procedure they go through that accounts for the cost difference.

Some say the EDM's make the horsepower, but without the excess smoke found in other's that make the same HP.

Smoke is horsepower going out the tailpipe instead of making the engine turn.

Re:What's all the hype about?

EDM's cost more because they are more costly and time consuming to produce. What you get is a smoother running truck with less smoke (for equal or greater hp than honed injectors) and better fuel economy.

Re:What's all the hype about?

I understand that smoke=lost power, (been trying to preach that for few years) what I don't understand is if you have 2 sets of injectors and both make say 60 extra HP on a engine dyno and the 2 companies advertise them as 60hp injectors then how can one make more power than the other?

I guess what I'm tying to figure out is the price difference really worth it? You can buy a used set of honed injectors for $300 is it really worth it to pay $800 for a set of EDM's that make the same HP?

I'm just picking everyone's brain here, not trying to start anything.

Re:What's all the hype about?

From the way I read it, the EDM's make the same 60 hp with less fuel because of a more efficient spray pattern and fuel atomization.

Re:What's all the hype about?

Why do you think the used sets are 300 and people are paying more for new EDM's? They are having a hard time selling honed injectors because a lot of people are buying EDM's. If your extremely money concious then buy the $300.00 injectors. Basically people either want a cleaner injector, better fuel economy, or more power for the same smoke and EDM's accomplish that. Only you can make up your mind as to what you want or want to spend. Just remember B.O.M.B.ing is very addictive and buying stuff like injectors more than once can be quite costly.

Bombing is addicting? uh oh. Why didn't someone tell me this?

Seriously, I haven't ever seen a set of Don's EDM injectors up for sale anywhere on the classifieds. I think alot of that has to do with the EDM injectors that are being upgraded are already spoken for and the people that have them won't give them up for anything besides a larger set. Here's the link to Don's site that describes the process of making EDM injectors.

Re:What's all the hype about?

Cool, Keep it coming I'm learning a little about these fancy EDM's.

Does any one know how much more efficiant they are than honed injectors? Say you burn 20 gallons of fuel to make 60hp with a set of honed nozzels how much less fuel are you going to burn with a set of 60hp EDM's?

The set of nozzels I have now are just fine, I'm just curious about this whole EDM Crazz that has been going on.

Like the sig says 30 more HP and I'm done. I sware! ;D :-[

Re:What's all the hype about?

Interesting subject,
I might have to try a set of these EDM's someday.

But, really the way you cut the injectors is only part of the game of atomizing the fuel.
Other things like injection pressures are important too, timing, angles etc.

By the way, I dont think anyone is having trouble getting rid of honed injectors, if you are I'll send you my address.

Re:What's all the hype about?

For me it was quite clear what I wanted- Low end torque, and very good smoke control at low speeds. Still wanted some higher power. I got my Mach3s and they do work as advertised.
I think that the abbreviation EDM has become a synonym for injectors with different numbers of holes-spray angles and patterns than stock. With an extrude hone process you can't change the number of holes, or the basic injection angle. A lot of the value of the EDMs is the research to find an optimum spray geometry.

Re:What's all the hype about?

I would have to say that the EDM's are good for many reasons. They make the same power with less fuel consumption. They are NEW as apposed to used. A set of honed high performance injectors are already equivalent to having 100,000 miles on them. They smoke less. This is a big deal to some that have smoke problems with the law. And the main reason they are so expensive is they start off as blank injectors which are very hard to come by.
