Rattling in Left Front Wheel Area
Rattling in Left Front Wheel Area
Recently I started hearing a rattle sound coming from the left front wheel area but I can't see anything wrong, and drivability seems unaffected. This doesnt sound like any wheel bearing failure I have ever experienced before but with these complete hubs maybe that's what this is? Hoping not because I've already put a bunch of $ in this truck already this year, starting to nickel and dime me a little bit.
Bad shock or loose shock bolt. I had front shocks that went to rattling and the previous installer tightened the top nut too much, crushing the rubber causing it to fall apart. made a terrible rattle. Right now I have a rattle in the rear end. One shock bolt is slightly smaller than the mounting hole. When I changed my shocks, I moved that bolt to the easy side and I'll probably take it out one day and shim it by wrapping a thin metal like a slice from a soda can around it. Or something similar to that.
Sometimes my rattle that I know is my shock bolt is deceiving and can sound like its the front but I already know what it is. I can make it stop by bearing down on it hard with two wrenches, but it will come back. Might want to check yours rear shock bolts.
My truck is doing the same thing. at little rattle on bumps only. I lifted the weight off the tires and grabbed the wheel on the top and bottom and check the play back and forth. Sure enough theres at least an 1/8" play. Ball joints are going south my mechanic buddy says. I didn't think with only 91000km that it could where out but they're starting to now. Keep us posted

check the ball joints cause they don't last long, and the sway bar end links will look good but most of the time wore out.those and the axle u joint are good and common causes of the noise you are probably hearing.
Does it stop when you apply the brakes. Mine has a rattle in the left front and stops when I apply the brakes. I finally traced it to a loose caliper. I posted a few months ago about this and it seems to happen quite often. Somebody suggested to shim the caliper.
