Dang!!!! You would believe how many times I've done that. I work on Chevs at work and the hood release is where our brake release is.... An easy mistake, although in your case expensive.

I had to look and make sure that you had the G56....... If AUTO that would have been a little harder to explain, but understandable since you have the G56. How in the heck did the truck float 100' away? Are you in a River System?

I had a Chevy truck that was saved from a similar fate by a Cummins. I backed my boat down the ramp until it floated and then the trucks engine died and would not restart. To make things worse, I was launching at low tide at the turn. I called my brother in law to bring his truck and save me. He made it to the harbor just before the cab started to flood and pulled my truck with trailer and boat right up the ramp. Right then I decided that I would rather have a Dodge Cummins than a Chevy.

I respect you for telling the truth about what happened, but if anybody else asks tell them you jumped it off the bank avoiding a run away baby carriage.

If something like that happens what should be done ASAP to save the engine? How would you get all the water out of the engine and intake system and protect everything from rust?

Holy Cow!!! Wow, that sucks man. Now what?

I can only imagine the horror of watching your truck roll into a body of water. Guess thats one positive of an auto over a manual...

He has more to worry about then rust in the engine, all of the electronics, tranny, t-case, front and rear end. That really sucks. You had better hope the insurance totals it, if not sell it as soon as you get it back. There are a lot of problems with flooded vehicles down the road, they are never the same.

Did you leave it running or idling in neutral?

Hope insurance covers it.

where was this at????

I'll make sure to stay away from this ramp.....we'll call it the imfauous "bay area truck motor killer" lol

may I also add, Scooter...I hope everything works out for you....I am just glad no one was inside the truck when it decided to take a swim!!!!! (like a kid to young to realize what was happening)

I had a similar "bad" experience at my local ramp at low tide...launching my boat, the winch ratchet connected to my boat broke free from locked (still to this day dont know how it happened, neither does ins, but they covered it) and my boat came rolling off my trailer....I gunned the truck in reverse to try to make it to the water but the boat rolled to fast...pitched it almost 90* verticle with the outdrive in 6" of water and the nose of the boat up in the air...the slightest rock either right or left would have pitched the boat off the trailer causing it to land on its gunnal wall. Luckly the marina has a BIG RIG with a boom craine on it...he came to the waters edge, hitched my transome tow eyes up and slung the bottom of the boat, then lifted the boat up in the air above my trailer and layed it down on the trailer...then he walked the boat up the ramp at the same pace as I was pulling it up the ramp untill it was level...

That was a sight to see, it was some awsome boom opperation on his part. 3700 dollars of damage....

50 cent sized hole in the outdrive bullet, bent prop, jarred the gimble mount and joint, cracked upper and lower gears, and bent gear shaft...had to yank the motor to get at the inner gimble mount nut...

NO structural dammage to the boat, didnt even hit the bottom...all the weight was resting on the outdrive....

that was 3 years ago...boat hasnt hick-uped not even once since the incident...

it pays to have a trusted and very good mechanic!!!!!!!!!
