Question for An Injector Guru
2003 CTD. Electronically fired injectors. My question is about the nozzles. Some parts vendors sell "nozzles" only. When you look at a picture on their website or on an e-Bay listing, this "nozzle" looks to be most all of the injector from the "O"-ring down. Now if this is true, it seems that if an injector was faulty because it was not closing all the way, allowing fuel to bypass to the return, this might be all that was necessary. The upper (exposed) part of the injector looks mainly to be the part that includes the 2-bolt hold down and the plastic or bakelite electrical solenoid section with the wire connections. I've seen a set of "Injector nozzles" go for about $500-$600, whereas just one new complete Bosch injector can be had for about $400 "each". That's, say, $600 vs. $2400......significant in any man's book. I'm still limping along with a hard start problem (more prevalent when hot that when cold). Something is just eating at me about this. I sure wish an injector Guru would shed some light on injector failure and what effect temperature plays on failures. Wouldn't it be nice if it was an electrical problem...???? But I always fear for the high-dollar problem because that's how it always seems to end up. Thanks for listening to me vent about this. Curtis
