On a 3.42 gear set , how many teeth should be on the ring gear?

Depends on the size of the gear. 3.42 is the number of teeth devided by the no. of teeth on the pinion gear. they are a set and have to be changed together. What are you trying to figure out?

I thought the ring gear should have 42 teeth on a 3.42 gear set but evidently thats not the case.
