Pulling the pan?

Can the pan be pulled off a 3rd gen, 2004, without removing the engine or transmission? My friend might have to replace number 6 piston and we're trying to decide on a plan of action. I seriously hope we do not have to pull the engine. This 3500 won't fit through my garage doors so we are doomed to the driveway for this repair.
Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Is the warranty out on the engine? I think Cummins has a 5 yr/100,000 mile warranty on that year truck. From everything I have read, the engine has to come out.

This guy puts some serious miles on the truck. He rolled over 100K last year, so no warranty.

I was just looking at my pan the otherday when I did a service job on it. I bet if ya had the head off you could get enough clearance to bring the pan out. Of course you would jacking and raisingto accomplish this. I have over 200thou on mine and am thinking about checking the rod & main bearings!!

We will surely pull the head before pulling the pan, if it's required, because we're only pulling the pan if we gotta put a piston in it. Still trying to secure a borescope to look in the injector hole before we pull the pan or anything else.
If you got good oil pressure, I wouldn't mess with checking the bearings. If you have always had good oil pressure then those bearings should look like new.
