Power Service or Amsoil?
Power Service or Amsoil?
Howdy, I was wandering if the Power Service was just as good as the Amsoil Diesel Fuel Additive Concentrate, I have a ticking injector? The dealer cleaned them once and it stopped for about a month then it started coming back. I started using the amsoil for about 4 tanks now and havent noticed too much of a difference(still rough start in the morning and white smoke). Is it hard to pull the injectors yourself?
Thanks all,

have you had the TSB done for the white smoke and poor gas mileage ?? I had this done to my 04.5 and it did make a difference. As far as additives go, power service is a good additive, I use stanadyne because it contains no alcohol. I actually noticed my motor running smoother and quieter with the stanadyne. Everyone will have their opinions on fuel additives as to which one is better or worse. Stanadyne, Racor, Power Service, ect. I think they are all pretty good just make sure they dont contain alcohol because it will affect the seals in the motor eventually.
I've used several differant fuel additive over time in two differant trucks.I've never noticed a differance in nothing but my wallet.I have used Amsoil in trucks and tractor as well as Powerservice. If it does anything for mileage, performance etc.your sure could fool me.
I contacted PS by email and ask if their product contained any alcohol and they said it did not. I used it in every tank on my 2001 and started my 2005 on it Saturday when I picked it up. It may not improve mileage or performance but I never had any fuel related issues with my 2001. I use the white bottle on day to day driving and the Diesel Kleen when pulling the 5th wheel.

If you're using an additive for mileage, you're wasting your money. I have used all of the popular additives, including Power Service and Redline. Stanadyne, hands down, is the only additive that makes my truck run and idle smoother and quieter. Any other additive and my engine sounds like a 2nd gen. I couldn't care less about mileage, but my truck runs exponentially better with Stanadyne.
Kry226 - that's because stanadyne has a lot of lubricity enhancer. You'd get the same improvement if you threw in a little biodiesel. However, stanadyne demulsifies water, which I completely disagree with because stock water separators are worthless, and the tank is a dynamic environment. Powerservice, Redline, Primrose, and others all emulsify/solubize the water, which in reality is a much more effective approach.
I also know high mileage trucks that never had a drop of anything but fuel in the tanks with 0 fuel/injector/knock/ping problems. One 03 with over 90k has had fuel filters only every 30k or so! My 93 W250 I had almost 10 years ,I think I used some Powerservice one time for ever how many gallons the bottlle treated.Like 3 tanks.
