Power Loss

I was told this engine should get more powerful up to 10K. Well, mine was great off the lot. Towed at 600 miles and towed great. Towed this weekend, and was less than impressed. I am hoping I got a bad batch of fuel as I was comparing it to my 98 Chevy 6.5 for a while there.

Towing 8K and had a good wind, but I was being passed by a couple of class C's and that shouldn't have happend. The sweet spot seems to be 6th at 70 or 5th at 55, and nothing in between. Have a little of 3K on the odometer. Also, checked the oil today and I am already in between the safe mark.

thoughts? A little worried b/c I am driving to CO for Thanksgiving with the 5th wheel in tow.

Re:Power Loss

What spots said.

Do you purchase fuel at the same place, or wherever?

Might want to have a spare in the toolbox for the trip too.

Re:Power Loss

Well, that is 2nd on the list for tomorrow. No water, and I have not bought fuel at any place that does not go through a lot of it.

Re:Power Loss

Well I had my first big scare last week. After 30k of flawless miles I started having huge surges and turbo pressure swings. Was real close to filter change time so I stopped at the first dodge dealer I could find (podunk dealer in TN - 50 bucks for the filter!!!) and swapped the filter. No change. I was down to about 1/2 tank so I filled up (different place) and the problem went away. Funny thing was I filled up at a major truck stop - same one on the way up and back. Almost 2000 miles since then so I have to assume it was bad fuel. Changed the filter again when I got home (good old $10 filter from geno's) just to be safe.

Won't be filling up at that truck stop again, that's for sure.

Re:Power Loss

Yeah, don't buy those filters from the dealers $45-55 is just too much. You can get them from any Cummins Dealer for about $12. I made sure I bought a few extra. Also you can use the ones from NAPA them seem work ok also.
