Possible fuel pump issue?

Ok heres the issue: driving on hiway or city whenever i take my foot off the fuel pedal the truck will drop to 0 rpms and stalls.

Ive called dodge and cummins both say it sounds like a failed fuel pump but its one of the relocated ones in the fuel tank and ive heard those are supposed to last a long time.

Truck is 03 2500 5.9 quad cab short box.

Looking for a 2nd opinion on this, thanks

Yeah, that could be a pump. Turn the key on, listen to the pump, see if it runs smoothly.

Do you have any codes? Used the key method. If you get a 0234, it's probably the pump. (I think that's the lift pump code.)

Do i need a code reader programmer thing to see it?
Also i bought the replacement pump meant for the mount by the fuel filter, will this pump work to replace the in-tank?

You wil need to take out the in tank pump and install a draw straw.

Wait a minute........ leave your fuel tank alone. Buy an aftermarket pump system that bolts to the frame rail. If you decide to remove that 03 fuel sender Ill buy it from you!

A tube that is used to suck the fuel up......... the problem with that, like i have, is the 1/4 tank issue. I have to keep the fuel level up or the pump starts to suck air when the fuel sloshes back and forth

Take a look at Glacier Diesel's fuel systems before you spend money on another OEM crappy pump.

First I would check for any codes, key on key off three times and then read code in the odometer after third key on. Then get back to us.

P0251 could be a bad fca do you have a fuel knock black smoke or engine runs rought at idle? Fuel pressure fluctuates at idle more then 500psi or fuel pressure higher at idle then 2500 rpm.
P0234 is over boost code, is truck stock? Could have stuck waste gate or bad map sensor.

no black smoke, it doesnt knock and it idles normally.
the truck is mostly stock, it has an aftermarket air filter and thats pretty much it. and would a bad sensor cause the truck to stall?

You have No lack of power and engine will idle OK. This will be difficult to diag unless you can monitor the fuel pressure and boost pressure. Clearing the codes and seeing which code goes active when driving. You can check fuel volumn from lift pump and CP3 pump but checking limit valve and CP3 pressure requires a scanner and some special fuel system test adaptors.

Read TSB which will give you some idea of what will need to be tested.

thanks for the information iron. probably more time efficient and easier to just bring it into the dealership and let them diagnose it rather then me buying scanners and what not.
