and the point to super expesive keys?
ok so whats the point to the sentry keys? I went to best buy today to look into remote starts and they make a box that you put your key in then the truck will start. if its really this easy to get past it whats the point?
Also next questions. I have some old remote entry remotes from my old truck, can the be reprogrammed or are they stuck on that one?
And if not. how do i reprogram a new one? Ive only got one left as my wife washed one and now it doesnt work (this is so grr) So what steps do i take?

The Sentry Key system is really a good immobilizer, or was, until the remote start crowd started messing with it. The key has a transponder in it, which communicates with a module in the column before the truck will start. There is no way to bypass it to make the truck start. (unless you hide a transponder in the column, or use your transponder to "train" a remote start module in order to defeat the immobilizer.) I think I'd much rather have the Sentry Key system than the remote start but everyone's different.
This is my thought too. But i wanted to play i bit. I didnt install it yet for that reason. But i notice that the truck will still start with a wal mart key. It wont go anywhere, i touch anything it dies and wont start again. But it DOES start. So im wondering how much you really need the box Then it would work great for warm ups and what not especially if you can get it to automatically do the throttle up
With the sentry key, it should only run about 5 seconds and die. Should also be a red light on on the dash. The "box" you're talking about has a remote pickup in it to give a signal to the sentry key transponder to tell the truck that everything is o.k. to run. I have seen people tape a key under the cover, but it has to be in just the right location to work. The "box" only sends the signal when powered up by the remote start. The key taped under the cover will work if anytime. If you continue to try the Walmart key you will eventually "lock" yourself out and the truck will need some assistance to start!
