pocket bearing noise....

So, I took my truck to the dealer for the "real fun" cruise control problem. I wont go into any details but you would think DC would send out a memo to owner's if the CRUISE CONTROL WONT TURN OFF OR CANCEL WHEN IT IS SET!!!

So they reflashed the computer.

Also had them center the steering wheel.

And check my noisy pocket bearing.

Seems when my tranny (6shooter) is in neutral and the clutch is released there is an odd rattling sound to which I equate to the pocket bearing going bad.

Long story short. The note on the invoice from DC is "Chrysler is aware of the problem and is working on a repair for the problem".

Anyone know what is up?

Re:pocket bearing noise....

There's a recall on the cruise control problem and a TSB on the clattering transmission.....both of which they should be able to fix (they've known about them for a while).

Here's TSB 06-001-03. Is this what you're looking for?

OH geez...

REplace the clutch and dont resurface the flywheel?

Doesnt that cause a "grabbing" clutch.

Maybe I will bypass this one and let it up to the garage to fix it whenever since I brought it to their attention.

Re:pocket bearing noise....

I finally got tired of hearing the rattling noise from my 6 speed and took it to the dealer. They said there was a TSB but it was the idler gear surging from the diesel at idle and the gap between the gears was causing the rattling noise. He was saying that when it warmed up it would expand and the rattling would stop. At first it seemed to make sense but even hot it still rattles and sometimes I can make it rattle by just taking the clutch in and out. I have a friend with a 6 speed and his is quiet. I also have the vibration at 2000 rpm and wonder if they might be somehow related. I really like the truck but it doesn't do any good to quiet the engine if the drive train rattles so loud you still can't go through drive thru's. Is the pocket bearing the same as the pilot bushing on the end of the crank?

I am now wondering if that is why my new clutch plate is grabbing - - did they surface the wheel? My old clutch was like silk - - this new one feels like a racing clutch. Very difficult to shift smoothly and it grabs when letting it out slowly like when backing the fiver into a tight spot. Sounds like shades of what Sierra Phil went through.
