getrag input shaft, pocket bearing

I've got the getrag completely apart now. The only parts that really show much wear are the syncros (third was in 4 pieces) and the pocket bearing between the main shaft and input shaft. The bearing is pitted pretty bad, but that is not the problem because I have a new one in the rebuild kit. The problem is that the race in the input shaft is also in pretty bad shape. It looks like the race is actually machined into the shaft, but the rebuild kit came with a race for the pocket bearing. So the ultimate question for this post: Do I need a new input shaft, or can I get a machine shop to bore it out to fit the new race? thanks

Personnaly, I would go with a new shaft.... But it could probably be done by a good machine shop. The cost would be about the same, I'm guessing....

I had the same problem and went new. I recently had my tranny apart and noticed some pitting on the bearing, but the input shaft looked great. I suspect one input shaft will live through several bearings.

thanks guys. Where do you think I could get one? I know drivetrain.com has them for pretty cheap.

On my rebuild I did not replace the input shaft. I now regret this as there is considerable rattling at lower rpms due to the iffy condition of the race. The input shaft is relatively cheap for such a vital component. If you can afford it, change it and you will be much happier.

I ended up getting mine through the local Fleet Pride. Seems like it was 125.00-ish

Thanks again, I just ordered one from drivetrain for a little less than that.
