Check the wiring at the a/c pressure transducer. There is some wiring coming off there that wears thru the insulation and shorts the 5v reference signal to ground. This can cause a the problem. Also make sure to check the wiring at the cam sensor too of course.

SYMPTOM
P0016-ENGINE SPEED SIGNAL MISMATCH

WHEN MONITORED
While Engine is running.

SET CONDITION
When the engine speed detected by the Engine Position Sensor (cam) and the Engine Speed Sensor (crank) differ by a specified RPM amount.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
  • Damage to the ESS or EPS
  • Mechanical misalignment of the ESS or EPS
  • Mechanical misalignment of the camshaft and crankshaft gears
  • Intermittent condition

this one should be pretty easy.....you know the cam sensor is good so unless the sensors are miss aligned in some way it is your crank sensor....
no new engine work right?

I would take VZ's advice and check the wiring before you buy a crank sensor

5.9L DIESEL ENGINES

1 - CMP
2 - FUEL INJECTION PUMP (BOTTOM)
3 - ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM)
4 - ECM ELEC. CONNECTOR
5 - CMP ELEC. CONNECTOR
6 - CMP MOUNTING BOLT
7 - BACK OF TIMING GEAR COVER

The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on the 5.9L diesel engine is located (1) below the fuel injection pump. It is bolted to the back of the timing gear housing (7) (5.9L DIESEL CMP).

Disconnect electrical connector at CMP sensor (5.9L DIESEL CMP).
Remove sensor mounting bolt (6).
Carefully twist and pull the sensor from timing gear housing.
Check condition of sensor O-ring.
