Piston/Ring Questions
Had my first look yesterday at a 7.3 PSD yesterday, and a couple of things struck me as strange. Was wondering if someone on this great forum can explain:
The pistons have a major groove cut between the two compression rings. Also, the specs for the ring gaps seemed pretty normal for the top ring (.014-.024), but the 2nd ring was more like .066-.072!! What's with that? Does the CTD do anything similar, and why?
Next, He is going with Polydyne coated bearings and pistons...whatchathink?
He pretzeled 7 rods and cracked 3 pistons when the engine took a shot of LIQUID propane on a very cold day....ouch! The good news is that the Powder Metal rods did not shatter and kill block, cam, etc.
