Diff cover paint chippin?

I was lookin under my truck today and noticed that the paint on my diff cover is chipped and pealing off. I run redline 75/140 but it looks like it MAY have gotten hot and caused the paint to crack. My truck is roughly 8-9 months old and has about 25,000 miles on it. Is this normal? Am I just paranoid?

I repainted mine several times and still pealed and cracked. So I replaced it with a PML cover.

wap,

The paint failure is real common, the paint that is used is applied poorly to start with and then they do get hotter than you can hang on to a lot! It's a common problem on all brands. The PML covers will fix the issue, add extra fluid to help cool it better and they aren't powder coated (great insulator) so they don't hold the heat in, plus a great price too. Ask around here on DTR lots of members have gotten one and they are the best value going. Great tranny pans too!

I was just worried about the heat on the ring and pinion, personally I dont care if the paint is chipped and the cover is rusty. I just wanted to make sure the rear end was goin to hold up.
Thanks for the info

My stock cover is doing the same thing. I was also concerned with heat but I have started checking the temp of the cover after pulling 8000lbs and you can lay your hand on the cover for at least 5-7 seconds so I'd say it gets not hotter than 140-150 deg F. I beleive it's just part of the crappy factory paint that it can't even handle these low temps for extended periods of time.
