Dont feel bad man.....I put gas in my 01 about 8 years ago. Was in a hurry even left it running while filling up about 15 gallons later I kept wondering why in the hell gas fumes were so strong looked around and I was pumping gas, I must say though there were 3 nozzles 2 gas 1 diesel and all 3 were black nozzles. I pulled the tank right there in their parking lot had a frind come get me took and dumped it on a brush pile wiped the tank out filled it with diesel put a quart of transmission fluid in and drove off never looked back.

Ignoring our advice he had the dealership take as much money as they possibly could.

Somebody has to keep them in business. If he chooses to throw away money, he sure doesn't need our sympathy.

The real advice to be learned here is: If you accidently put gas in your diesel, take a deep breath and know that everything is probably alright, just drain it, add new fuel and a lubricant and continue on like nothing happened.
I agree..

I filled up at a Hess station. Checked the price of diesel, pulled in to a stat ion that said diesel over it. Several nozzles over on the right. went to a seprate nozzle on the left that I thought was the diesel. filled up, checked milage, reset compouter, drove home. after about 5 miles I felt a little miss on acceleration. was not really sure, because the road was so rough. next morning it started but was really bad. sent it to the local dealer on a flat bead. Dealer says it is full of gas. I am just gonna let them fix it and hope they actually can.
thinking back, I know the nozzle was too small, but did not realize that at the time. from the price, it was high test, almost exactly the same as diesel.
lot of bad things here. worst of all is , it is my wifes truck, and she loves it. we are 700 miles from home in a camping resort that would not allow working on a diesel in the yard. wish I could get it back to my local dealer, but maybe these folks know what they are doing. I can not keep from getting gouged good, but hope that they at least can do the work they charge for.
He was given MANY good ideas. Even with the above bolded he could have saved $7000 if he would of just had it towed to a place he COULD work on it or just a shop that would do the drain and fill for him.

Thanks for all the replies and help. I do appreciate your taking the time to help even if I failed to heed the advice. Truck does seem to be okay now. I guess long term is long term and we will see. I plan on running it until one of us, me or the truck, can not go anymore. I does make me feel better to know that these engines have survived this type of mistreatment. I did notice in the local paper that the owner of that Dodge dealership is buying his third local car dealership, a ford dealership, now. I should get a free tour, probably.

Free tour?

They should name a wing after you!

Yeah, for what you paid, you must have got all new injectors, new pumps, and a little 'special treatment' from the car wash gal.

At that point, if they are replacing everything anyway, I'd wait to see if anything is going to sound funny or fail later. What the heck, you are replacing it anyway.

Did your insurance company pay for the repair???

2 pumps, injector flush, filters. $5200 parts cost for pumps (is that the one I see for about 1200 on the internet?) did not replace injectors. have not contacted insurance. not sure why they would pay but I might give it a try.

Sorry to hear about your mistake. Here in Oregon we can not pump your own fuel, one of only two states that can't, technically you can pump diesel here but 99% of the time the attendant does. My sister-in-law had a car which was diesel powered and the attendant pumped in gas. The service station had it towed and paid for all repair costs. But that is about the only thing I like about "not pumping your own fuel". {Also employees people} The other states I travel through I can get in and out of in half the time hardly any wait. {Indian Reservations you can pump your own.}

My wife done this once on hers. After that she is only allowed to get fuel at one place, unless absolutely necessary to get elsewhere. the one place has diesel pumps completely separate from all others on the opposite side of the building. Solved that problem.

I did accidently put diesel in a gas truck once. So used to driving my diesel and started driving my old power wagon. Needed fuel. The place I went didn't have the diesel handle in green and normal size nozle. I wasn't paying the best attention until I pumped about 4 gallons in it. stopped. filled up with gas and smoked out the roads all the way home.

Back in High school I was driving dads old 84 Chevy with a 6.2. I put 5 gallons of gas in it before I realized I grabed the wrong nozle. I called a neighbor farmer(dad was at work) and he said to just fill it up the rest of the way with diesel and go home. Thats what I did. The truck had around 140,000 miles on it at the time. My dad sold the truck to my brother a couple years ago with around 280,000 and now he just sold it to a freind with around 300,000 on original engine. I would say you got hosed worse than anyone I have heard of in a long time. My cousing just replaced the ENTIRE fuel system on his 02 Duramax wich is basialy the same as our 3rd gen CR Cummins for around what you paid for a $1200 pump. He repalced everything from the tank forward including the fuel filter housing and injectors and pump and lines, everything the fuel touches.

Guys on this forum have called their insurance co after a mis-fuel and their insurer has paid for the repairs, that's why I asked.

The high pressure pump is the expensive one, around $1,000 new. The lift pumps are pretty cheap, even a super duper upgraded one is around $300. With injectors running around $400 each or a total of $2,400 I just figured you got new injectors too. And at that price, a new fuel tank, all news lines, new filter housing, new high pressure lines, new pumps, I don't think you could possibly come up with $5200 in parts, but I'm not real sure.

I really think you should take the part numbers they said they replaced and verify they are all new parts, then look up the Dodge prices. I would not be surprised if all they did was drain the tank and refill it and cash your check.

Some dealers will really take you to the cleaners. I had a dealer charge my dad $110 to tell him he needed a new turbo and with all the related labor he needed to drop a couple grand. He took the truck to another shop for a second opinion and they found his intake tube was off. They reattached it for free and he went on his way. That was over two years ago and he's still driving the truck.

Apparently not all dealers are crooks either. A while back, a friend of mine gassed up his 2000. This was probably in about 2001 or 2002. He filled it all the way up, got in, started it and had enough diesel in the lines to get into the street and die. Probably 25 gallons of gas in it. He had it towed to the dealer, and all they did was drop the tank, drain it, drain the lines, replace the filter and fill it back up. Total bill was $600, and most of that was for the disposal of the contaminated gasoline.
