P0514-bat temperature sensor

Got an interesting problem with my 2006 2500. When I plug in the block heater and let it run all night, I will get a P0514 code and the MIL illuminates. If, on the other hand, I don't leave it plugged in all night or just plug it in for an hour before I start I don't get the code or MIL! I haven't checked the connector(s) yet, its been 20F with a stiff breeze here in Upstate NY. The manual says you need to remove the batteries to get at the sensors so I think I'll wait for a sunny day. My only concern is the sensor supposedly manages the battery charge based on how cold the battery is. Anybody been there or had this problem?

Seems like every winter this pops up. I think the ECM gets confused when batts are cold and coolant temp is (relatively) warm. Some trucks have this issue and some don't.
It doesn't seem to pose a problem, other than the CEL. Maybe with the programming on some trucks the ECU "expects" to see the battery temp increase as if the battery heaters were connected also.
The batt temp sensor is under the passenger-side battery, in the bottom of the tray.

It requires a flash from the dealers computer to correct the problem.

Is the reflash covered by a recall or a TSB?

I don't recall for sure but I think it was a TSB. Mine was done while I was still under warranty.

Ive had this problem since my truck was new. never took it in to get the flash because they will add the reverse horn honk when they flash the computer. It goes away.
