original lift pump

Just wondering. How many 2003's are still on their original lift pumps? Stock trucks or modded?

Yesterday, I was at the dealer, talking to their diesel mechanic, & he mentioned that the original pumps seem to last about 70,000 miles, on average. My truck is an '03, HO.

Last Oct., I installed a Glacier Diesel/Walbro system on my truck before I had fuel pump issues with the stock pump. I, also, bought a spare pump (Walbro) on Ebay in case of emergency. It was about $100.00.

I have about 66,000 miles on the truck.

I have 83k on stock pump.

Truck just started to act funny. Evey once in a while the engine would just skip a beat....kinda weird. Very similar to taking spark away from a gas engine. When this happens I blow a cloud of black smoke out the back. Not too big but noticeable. My guess is its the pump but we'll see.

EAT BEEF,

I was up in your neck of the woods back in the '90's. Calgary, Banff, & stayed at my cousins place in Bragg Creek, to the West of Calgary next to a National Forest.

I really liked the Bragg Creek area. My cousins even had moose grazing in their backyard.

The looks of the mountain range in the Banff area was incredibly beautiful. I can't wait to get back up to your area, again.

I know this is a bit off topic but, I didn't think the Alberta Chamber of Commerce would mind, that much. Just might tempt someone that hasn't been there, to go.

I'm still on my original lift pump but only 35,000 miles, mild mods.

What did you get for a backup? Stock replacement?

I made it to 50K. I wnew my pump wasn't long for the world based on my FP and had to drive down the Alaska Highway from Anchorage thru Canada to Idaho. I knew better than to risk of driving the trip on a weak LP, so I put in a GDP-392 and haven't had a problem since...
