Glad to see another one who got a one piece drive line to cure their problem. I saw a post about this same subject on one of the Dodge/Cummins forums back in late 07 or early 08, but this guy had his drive line made at a shop and he said it took care of his take off shudder. He also stated that Dodge had planned to start using a one piece drive line sometime in 2008 and if pushed Dodge would replace the drive line under warranty.

Dodge will not replace your driveshaft under warranty if your have launch shudder.

Dodge even has a specific warning not to use this driveshaft to replace the 2 piece. The warning is unfounded, but still a convenient way to get out of fixing launch shudder.

How much? I think I have a u-joint going out and would like to cure all future driveline issues the first time if possible. I would think the one-piece would be stronger but will the steeper u-joint angle cause problems? I do have aa add-a-leaf in the rear with 35s. On the other hand theres one less u-joint and no carrier bearing to fail.

Hey powerwagon, or anyone else. Is the Aluminum one about 1" shorter than the 2 piece? I got one out of an 08 with the 6.7 and 68rfe and but a quick measure I think its about an inch shorter than mine. I haven't taken mine out to lay next to it like you did though. I assumed the 68rfe trans may be an inch longer than the 48re and thus an inch shorter shaft. Maybe I measured wrong, kinda hard laying under truck with ice melting dripping in your face....

Well I just looked under an 08 about 20 minutes ago and that one-piece aluminum driveshaft is HUGE! Now I really want one! Every place I've called can't look up a part # for me without a VIN#. So I figured I'd swing in the local dealer and get one off a new truck on the lot. Found the only new diesel with the same wheelbase on the lot and wrote down the VIN only to realize it was a six-speed. SO.... anyone with an 07 or 08 quadcab longbed or mega with an auto that has the one-piece aluminum from the factory thats willing to volunteer thier VIN# - shoot me a PM and I'd greatly appreciate it. Or better yet someone that has done the swap and has the correct part number - that would be awesome. Thanks.

Thats lovely, Wait till you half to replace the U-joints, The U-joint cups will rust into the aluminum yokes.

Well if you have to replace them, let me recommend some PB Blaster to help loosen them.

probably because no one knows. How is anyone supposed to know that unless they own a shop that they can apply torque to it and see at what point it twists?? Something tells me dodge does not just publish the failing rate on every component they use. Just my .02
