Oil report... not looking good

Well, the picture says it all... It's getting close to time for a rebuild. New bearings, new cam, springs, get the injectors sent off for a freshening up, if I have the money I'll get the head milled and put a custom intake, port the exhaust and intake.... it's only money! Anything else I should do for support?

Ugg, Not good. The intake porting job is expensive. 3-4K at a minimum. Cost of the head, used?, Intake machining off 1200-1300, porting= 1300-1400, refresh=400 or so, side draft intake kit=1200-1400. I would love to do this but the cost is just not justified. I am still looking at ways to get the cost down.

Sucks for sure. I'm staring down the barrel of a rebuild as well. Lots of blow-by up the oil fill hole and out the tube. Using 9 qts of oil every 3000 miles. No run issues what-so-ever??

Yeah, it's not cheap. Maybe a dremel with a stone bit will open those paths a little... I do wonder if I should go that route, find a used head and get it all done first.

I saw that in your other thread... man, that's no joke! You're probably just puking that out instead of burning it, you should route your blowby tube back in your crankcase, put a vent on the top... save some of that liquid gold! (I'm kidding about the tube...)

Change the oil your using. Try a 15/40, Delo or Rotella. I have friends that were running 5/40 synthetic in class 8 trucks that we had to do bearing rolls in less than a 100k on engines that should have gone 750k.

Huh. Spend the money on the 'good stuff', look what happens.

I'll do that.

When you take your oil sample how do you do it? I use a pump and a small tube that goes through the dipstick tube. Engine and oil at full operating temp, about 1 minute after shutdown. If your capturing a sample during oil drain capture it in the sample bottle the at the mid point drain. Never scoop a sample out of the drain bucket or use a metal container to capture a sample. Make sure the engine is hot. This is the only way to capture a real world sample. If the engine is cold the contaminants settle and give highly false readings.

Warm engine, during an oil change normally. I get it draining and wait after I get about a gallon out. I have a Fumoto oil drain valve, so it's pretty easy to get.

Hot engine, also go 5k not 1k. You want to keep with the average interval for a accurate reading.

Just did a rebuild on my 04 this year. Bored out,#6 sleeved, rings, pistons, rods, bearings, rebuild the head. Just a few bucks under $9500. It sure sucked to pay someone else to do what I'm capable of doing myself, I just didn't have a shop to work in. Hope your rebuild goes well.

madhat,
I just had very similar results with a blackstone report. My iron was higher and copper lower but I ran same oil about 11k. I've never gone that long. I had a boost leak AND an electronic issue for most of that run. I had tons of soot so I am hoping I've cleared it up being that my issues are fixed now.. If not... I don't know what I am gonna do.. But I am going to send in a sample with about 3500 on oil and hopefully numbers will be better relative to time, etc.
Our trucks are very similar in mileage AND the report... Scary similar.
