I ran DINO (Delo 400) for the first 10K, then I switched to Synthetic (Amsoil).
As for the filter, I use Fleetguard.
If you do a search on these 2 subjects you will find that the type of oil and filters used here are really by the preference of what you want and how much you are willing to pay...

Fleetguard oil and fuel filters and what ever oil brand that is easy for you to get. I don't think there is bad oil. Just change it regularly. Rotella has a unique smell (Rosmella).

There really isn't any bad oil...even wal-mart super tech oil is rated right up there with the name brand oils....after all wal-mart gets the top oil companies to sell their product to wal-mart which in turn put the oil in wal-mart jugs/bottles and label it as super tech brand.

Put the oil in and forget about all the advertising hype....the most inportant thing to remember is to use the API rating and weight recommendation for your year truck.

old blu, your owners manual can answer your basic maintenance questions. Make sure the brand you choose meets the vehicle requirements. Your vehicle probably calls for 15w40 CJ-4 or 5w40 CJ-4 for very cold weather. Brand wars are ridiculous and useless.

I use what Cummins recommends, Valvoline. I run Dino and change at 5,000 miles.

Should of answer this the first time.

A 07 5.9 can use CI+4 or CJ rated oils in your choice. Use fleetguard or Mopar filters for warranty purposes. Filters can be bought here www.genosgarage.com for less cost.

Talking

Narrow it down to two oil brands you like the most and then flip a coin, you will more than likely come out a winner either way.

I talked with a fella at Cummins Eastern Canada.
He says you can use synthetic...but you really don't have too.
He said use fleetguard filters and be religious about changing fuel filters as specified.
He DID say to try to stick with the same brand of oil everytime if you can.
This was in no way a dire warning...just a suggestion.
I have heard this suggestion from different auto experts over the years.
May or may not have some validity.
I truly think some of us are way too **** over the oil we use.
I think the engine will outlast most of our trucks as long as it meets the minimum requirements and gets changed when specified and not before.
But this is a personal choice and everyone has an opinion and their own practice regarding oil changes...that's what makes conversation and makes these forums fun.
