oil pressure reading

oil pressure reading

where does the oil pressure gauge read on your trucks?
just picked my new ctd rig up last night, reads + 40psi at highway speed after good and warm, just curiuos.

It looks like a gauge, it even acts like a gauge, but it is (sadly) nothing more than a fancy idiot light. It does not read your actual pressure. It does no more than sense that you do indeed have oil pressure, and the computer varies the "guage" readings to "fit customers expectations" or something to that effect. In any case, whoever programed the computer to vary the gauge readings did a good job.

It starts moving when it senses 6 psi of oil pressure. It also takes into account the engine temperature and runs a little high while it's cold. There have been numerous threads about this over on TDR.
