Oil pressure fluctuation in 2004
Oil pressure fluctuation in 2004
Just curious, our '04 has 357 miles on it and at an idle the oil pressure goes down to just above the left hand white mark (20psi??). While running it goes to the middle where it is marked 40. I'm okay with the 40 while at speed, but not too warm and fuzzy with it dropping down.
Is this normal? I will check the oil quantity tomorrow morning while it is cold and then again after it is warm. (Too lazy to do it tonight and too darn tired.)
My 01 never varies a bit from dead center at any speed and rpm, so I'm curious and a wee bit concerned.
Thanks in advance.

Mine does the exact same thing. I believe its normal since the info to the gage is fed from the computer instead of directly from the sensor like it used to be. Not sure I like the new way things are done. Just changed my oil today (1400 miles) we will see if that makes a difference but I doubt it.

The oil pressure gauge is a phony. The PCM is programmed to deliver " customer expected readings" to the gauge. Once the truck registers something like 6 psi from the sending unit it will show you what you "expect" to see.
Basically, the gauge may be reading 40psi while in reality you could have 8 psi.
