Re:Oil Filters
Don't hold me to this but I think the 03' filters are the same internally as previous filters for example a 03' vs 02' fleetguard. I belive the only difference is 03' are fluted on the end for a wrench hence different part #'s. As a matter of fact I read somewhere that you can use 03' filters on earlier trucks so you could use the cap wrench. I think this only applies to 24v trucks so 12v fellows should do a little more research.

Wick,

I went to the local Cummins Power Store to pick up a fuel filter and oil filter for my '03. They gave me the same Stratapore oil filter that is sold for the '02's.

I haven't used it yet, but I am hazarding a guess that it will.

Couldn't hurt to ask the dealer to spin an "'02" version of the oil filter on for giggles. Other than the external packaging, I'm sure the internals are probably the same.

The 02 filters will work on the 03 but they will be a lot harder to get off.As said before the 03 are fluted on the bottom so they are a lot easier to change from the bottom.I think you can put the 03 filter on a 02.
Even if the oil filter from the 96 fits on the 03, I would not do it. The 24 valve motors develope higher oil pressures than 12 valvers. The filter may burst.
John
How much higher is the oil pressure that it will burst a filter...I would think it would have to be in the 100's of psi to blow out a oil filter....IMHO I think your wrong about this ???
