I am not interested in running bypass filtration, but would like to know which filter would be the best for allowing longer drain intervals on my truck, with Delvac 1. I thouight the ELF was Donaldson's counter to the venturi filter offered by Fleetguard? Does Fleetguard make a venturi for these trucks and if so, are there any restriction problems and can they extend my intervals?

 

I've never seen a venturi filter for oil, only for fuel. The Fleetguard LF16035 uses synthetic filter media which is an upgrade from the LF3972. Most of the members on this board seem to be using Fleetguard filters. From my brief experience in the trucking industry I know that Donaldson's have a good reputation. I thought that the ELF series with Donaldson was a combo full flow and bypass in one package. I have seen Fleetguard filters that are a similar setup, but the filters that fit our trucks are only full flow.

The real key to extended intervals is oil analysis. It's all about trend analysis.

 

The ELF uses a synthetic media similar to the Stratapore, but Donaldson claims higher efficiency, 94 % @ 5 microns (IIRC edit: no, I don't). Unfortunately Fleetguard doesn't make their venturi filter for the B series Cummins, so the ELF is the best thing short of a separate bypass filter.

edit: Correction on the ELF efficiency claims- 98.7% @ 15 microns, 50% @ 4 microns

That's still pretty dang good.

 

What is the claimed efficiency rating on the Stratapore filter?

Is the ELF on the approved filter list?

 

Stratopore claims 100% at 30 microns, 60% at 10 microns - definitely more than "good enough", but the Donaldson ELF is better.

I wouldn't worry about using the ELF whether it's on the list or not, it's designed as an extended drain filter - very high capacity, very robust construction.

 

I am primarily concerned with extended intervals with my Delvac 1 without going the route of a full bypass system, as I won't keep this truck past 200K anyways. Just want the length of drain!
