Oil drain tube leak

Oil drain tube leak

can anyone tell me how to fix a leaking turbo oil drain tube? its leaking right where the tube goes into the engine block. I got down there and tried to twist/pull/shake the tube to see if it was loose or something, but it wouldn't budge.

I'm assuming it has o-rings or something to make the seal but it sure is in there pretty tight.

There is an o-ring on the end where it goes in the block and its a tight fit. Are you certain its coming from there and not running down from the top or theres not a crack in the flex tube somewhere above there?

just checked it out. the tube is clean from the turbo all the way to where it connects into the block. the oil is coming from around that connection.

is there anything special about those o-rings or can I buy them from a parts store?

Judging by how tight that tube is in the block this doesn't look like a fun job.

I can't see how the o-ring could cause a leak because it is pushed into the block and oil just flows past it toward the oil pan under no pressure. Sounds like the leak would have to be above the block on the tube itself which means you'd have to replace the turbo drain tube. Getting it out of the block is one thing, getting it off the turbo is a whole other nightmare. If I remember correctly that back bolt was designed by an engineer who currently resides in a back corner of hell.

You are probably right. I should have hit it with some parts cleaner and looked all the way around the tube with an inspection mirror. I'm guessing the best thing to do is buy a whole new tube? The dealer will probably want $9 Million dollars for the stupid tube

If it makes you feel any better my oil drain tube leaks from two places. Since I am stupid and forgot to put the oil drain on the new turbo before installing it it leaks from the back bolt. Mine also leaks just a little bit from where the drain enters the block. I checked it, and there are supposed to be two orings on that to seal it. One of mine is missing and the other is in two pieces.

As soon as I get my new manifold in Ill fix the leaks. Till then, I just let the leaky oil keep everything rust free under the truck.

Go to sourceautomotive.biz and order one from them. They have lots of parts for turbos and stuff. Good prices and good people. I think I got mine from them.
Considerably less than $9 million.

the pic has me confused because it looks like a piece of rubber hose stuck on the end?

hose is probably to protect the o-rings... sure looks like the right one. make sure you give him the year of your truck and ask if it comes with a new gasket cause you're going to need one.


that looks like its for earlier trucks... what year do you have... although they may be the same tubes.

Yeah I noticed that is was for earlier truck's but was the closest looking thing I could find. My truck is an 05

Yeah, I have a feeling That I am going to end up pulling the manifold/turbo combo. LUCKY ME though has experience doing that, so if I get up early and just tear into it HOPEFULLY it wont be that bad.
