Got the engine out yesterday. #1 & #6 have broken rings, #6 is the worst. Dropping it off at the machine shop this week. I'm hoping they can fix it. The guy asked me if I had a tuner or something on it, I told him a Bully Dog was on it. Why would he ask that? I always kept it on "tow" and only on the higher settings to just show off a bit here and there.

Your mechanic asked if you had a tuner because he could tell that a tuner caused the engine damage.

What year is your engine? Do you have boost and pyro gauges installed?

High EGT's likely caused the rings to expand and break in the bores.
The Bully Dog programmers are terrible because you have no control over parameters like rail pressure, unlike a Smarty.

Also, I recommend sending out your fuel injectors to a reputable shop for testing. I would plan on all new injectors also.

Once your engine is rebuilt, don't load the Bullydog programmer on it. Plus I recommend added fuel filtration.

I have the Bully Dog as gauges. I don't run it hard. The machine shop has not seen it yet. I will drop it off later this week. I am not using the injectors. They will all be replaced. I have had a oil consumption problem for the last 30,000 miles that I've owned the truck. The PO had some type of tune in it. I had it reflashed to stock before I bought the Bully Dog.
The build date for engine is 7-2004.

I rebuilt mine .020 over QSB 480 Pistons, Hamilton 178 cam and reman head from Cummings and Valair Dual disc clutch for around 6k with me doing the assembly. Got Pistons and rebuild kit at Mamau diesel, got a little more than that in it but ordered a fluidampr and some other parts that I got stiffed on as place went under. I did have new injectors on the shelf and that price is not included but does include BMS tips to match Pistons.
Got about 8000 miles on it so far and am happy with it

The machine shop said they cleared the block on .20. Hopefully it will be done next week sometime. Good news!
