Amsoil 15/40 is good, Rotella, Premium Blue Extreme, etc... Fuel Filter needs to be changed every 10,000, I do mine every oil change at 5,000 intervals.

I would have changed the fuel filter 20,000 miles ago. Dodge says to change it every 15,000. I change sooner than that.

As far as synthetic goes,I'd say the most popular is probably Rotella 5w-40. Amsoil is right up there as well.

I agree, change the fuel filter easy to do. I also use the Rotella 15w40 and I purchase it at a gallon for 10 dollars at Wal-mart

I went with royal purple 15w40 and you need 12 quarts for the 5.9. I used to use Delo 15W40 and it was a good oil had no problems you can find that everywhere. Rotella is made by shell and it's good too, btw Delo is

change that fuel filter 4 sure. the oil topic can get messy. lots if ci-4 v. cj-4 and group 3 v. group 4 discussion going on. Basically pre 2007 trucks without the emmissions crap should run a ci-4. Rotella is group 3 not true full synthetic. Amsoil and other are true group 4 synthetic but spendy if you don't go for extended drains.

CI-4+ rated diesel oil had more zinc & phosphorus which is 'bad' for the catalytic converter but thats what is specified for our (5.9L) engines. CJ-4 is the 'superceding' spec and has less ZDDP and shorter drain interval (oil changes).
I used the old CI-4+ Rotella 5w-40 and it is a 7500 mile oil - I had gone 9900 miles and my oil analysis had way too much iron 'cause I didn't change soon enough.
IF: you don't care to do an oil analysis to extend your drain intervals then IMHO just use the CJ-4 Rotella 5w-40 and change your oil & filter every 7500 miles.
OR: use a Group IV (Amsoil) or Group V (Royal Purple) synthetic CI-4+ rated oil and do an oil analysis (~7500 miles). I plan to change out the filter (which holds 1 qt) and sample in another 2500 miles to basline.
