oil blowing out of fill cap?

recently i have noticed a substantial amount of oil exiting the oil fill cap. Has anyone ever experienced this??? I have no idea what would cause it.

There is also excessive oil on the bottom side of the motor and all over the front axle. At first I thought it was just the blow by tube, but now im extremely concerned because the truck is using an excessive amount of oil. Where should i start checking for leaks???? oil pan gasket is what first comes to my mind.

Thanks for any help.

Is it coming out of your blow by tube? Do you have fuel in your oil? Is your oil drain line all the way in the block?

im not 100% sure its coming out of the blow by tube....im going to hang a catch can on it to verify.

I don't believe I have any fuel in my oil.

Im not sure what your talking about when you mention the oil drain line.

Thanks for your help!

Pull your dipstick and see what it smells and looks like. Sounds like you have a cracked injector or two. This would cause the oil pan to fill with oil and puke out the blow by tube. Also, if you have more oil/fuel mix than can be drained by the blow by tube it can push out the oil fill cap. Check the smell or consistency of the oil and get back with us.

have you ever run a k&n air filter on it. if the oil is not diluted with diesel , leave the dipstick out for a trip if blow by causes oil to spray out it's time to dig a little deeper

well, i investigated my oil a little further. There is no sign of fuel in the oil. I left the dipstick out for the first couple miles, and when i stopped to check if there was any blow by out of the dipstick tube, i saw oil on the ground before i even opened the hood. There was oil blown everywhere.

From what I understand, the motor is shot. The rings/pistons/jackets or whatever are wore letting pressure build in the crankcase. Can anyone confirm this diagnosis???

What are my options??? Does anyone have a ballpark figure on what it would cost to rebuild?????

Also I talked to a guy with an 05. the truck is getting repod. He is willing to swap me engines for $3,000. We this be considered a fair price? Also what issues may encounter upon swapping these? Will computers be an issue?? wiring?

All help is greatly appreciated!!!!

WEll that sounds about right. If you have a couple bursnt cylinders than you would get excessive pressure and some serious blowby.

I would say for 3g that is not a bad deal as long as it is in a '05 and the mileage is low. If it is not I would do a rebuild on yours and do it right.

Take the deal! I would. Sounds like you have bad blowby and you have found a solution for 3000 bux. Only 50K miles too.

Any idea why your current motor is shot? I didn't see any mods in your sig other than the exhaust...

How many miles? What kind of life has it led?

Call Cummins and see what they want for a reman engine, before you grab the other one. If you are set on Repo Enginge then make sure it is a HO like yours.

lets dig a little deeper before condemning the engine i did not see any mods that would have caused excessive heat and if he did not have a k&n air filter or a filter failure he may have something that is repairable, pull the valve cover off and start the motor and see if we have any obvious valve guide seal problem next remove the turbo and exhaust manifold and see if it is isolated to one cylinder

Yes, the oil cap is supposed to have a rubber o'ring around it. If yours is gone you'll get oil all over the engine. I went through this.
