I have the smoke on start up and have always had it. Some times it idles rough but for the most part it is not bad. In the last two months I have had a odd thing occur. Leaving work I let the truck warm up for about one min holding the throttle steady at 1000rpm to kill the smoke. I got on the road and gave it about ¾ throttle and it seemed like I had no power and just did not seem right. This lasted for about 20 seconds and then boom full power and a cloud of smoke. It is not black smoke but the white-ish blue smoke like on start up. This just happened last Friday and since then it idles terribly when first started. Does any one have any ideas as to what this might be? Thank you all for your help.

Sounds like an injector issue, I had similar experiences with mine before it went out.

Check or replace your fuel filter if you haven't already.

 

I am having a very similar problem with my truck, at first it would just idle rough and then clear up. Now it surges constantly at all speeds and when at idle it jumps around from 500 to 1000 rpm. I changed the filter, but it did not help at all (in fact, I think it is worse now). I am scheduled to have the dealer take a look at it on Wednesday.

When I find out what it is I will post the info.


The truck is a 2003 with the 305HP engine.
