NV5600 questions
#16
I'm relieved to find that I am not the only one with this issue. My truck has 55,000 on it and it doesn't like to shift into 1st, 2nd or reverse. It especially has issues when stopped and the clutch has been released for a while. I've tried it all, shifting from third to reverse and second, double clutch, waiting, engaging and disengaging the clutch, even shutting the truck off once when it wouldn't go into reverse. I changed to Amsoil at around 45,000 miles with minimal change. The thing for me is my father in law has the same year and tranny and his tranny is a lot smoother. So I am wondering if I should take it into the dreaded dealership, or just live with it?

I would suggest going to a 12 Valve master and slave cylinder unit, thats what I run on my truck.
It will take a little modding, but will work great and disengage as much as you want.

I have 156,000k on my truck and it has always been tricky at times getting it into reverse. It was better after switching to AMS oil but would still be a battle occationally. I just had the rear main seal go on the engine and replacing that meant the transfer case and transmission had to be pulled. On getting it back the first thing I noticed was how much easier it went into both 2nd and reverse. I think that from new things were bolted together such that they were just slightly off alignment and the R&R put things back together the way they are ment to be.

I've only got about 1K miles on my new NV5600, and it doesn't really like reverse, but second and first are loosening up the more I drive it.
I changed the master and slave assembly to whatever Peter @ SBC sent me. I also lengthened the slave rod about 3/16". Has anyone else lengthened the slave rod?? How much can I lengthen it??
Thanks,
Chris
