NV5600 Lube for oil change?
I'm going to change the tranny lube, and the manual says to use MOPAR Manual Transmission Lubricant in the 6-speed. I've heard its 5W-30 motor oil; is this correct?
Been thinking of trying AMSOIL as well.

Re:NV5600 Lube for oil change?
I know the NV5600 uses a thinner gear oil, but I wouldn't run a motor oil in my transmission. The formulations are different.
Redline Oil makes full synthetic transmission fluids. Their MTL would work in the NV5600, and it's GL-4 rated, which is the rating for manual transmissions. A lot of gear lubes are rated GL-5, which is for differentials, usually too slippery for synchros.
I've heard Penzoil Synchromesh will fit the bill also, and have seen this stuff at Autozone. Good luck!

Personally I would use the Redline MTL. This is excellent fluid and will smooth up the synchronizers a bit. Once mine is ready to change, this is what I will be using.
As for factory fill, other acceptable alternatives are Texaco 1874 and Pennzoil Syncromesh Fluid 3501.

I just looked through the maintenance schedule and couldn't find when you're supposed to changed the manual tranny lube. How often are you supposed to do this?
I also saw that both diff's are supposed to be done every 15K! That sounds spendy! :'(

Yeah it says that the manual tranny is "Filled for Life." Personally I am going to probably change mine every 50-60K miles since I don't do any towing. And I will be using Redline MTL of course.
As for the diffs, they probably assume you'll be offroading, driving through water, and towing. That's why the intervals are so short. It may not be a bad idea to change it frequently because oil is cheaper than gears....lol. If I put Redline in my diffs I'll let the intervals go a little longer...maybe 25-30K or so. Heck, some people NEVER change their diff oil.

Hey Headbanger, I had the same surprise when I saw the 15k interval on the diffs too. I've had the truck a year now and figure its a good time to change out those fluids. Maybe its me, but 3rd gear is getting stickier.
For RamDan, I'll be out your way to pick up some Redline after work; the local Napa doesn't carry it anymore.

I'm trying to think....You must be going to Zipper's in Elkridge on 6655 Amberton Drive. They are listed as a local dealer on Redline's website. They are only a few traffic lights down the road from me.

Re:NV5600 Lube for oil change?
I need to check redline's site...my local Nappa burned down last week
...and I mean burned. Only the block walls left.
I would like to try the redline in mine NOW! 16,000 and I think it is a good idea to get fresh oil in it after break in....just like everything else.
Thanks for the info on redline.
John

Yeah, I think its near the flea market.

I've never been to Zipper's before, but Amberton drive is the first traffic light after you get on Rt.1 North from 100 West. It must be close to the flea market and the Mini-Golf/Go Cart place. You'll have to let us know what kind of stock/prices they have. From visiting their website, it looks like they build some really nice bike engines.

Amsoil ASL 5w30 is the recommended lube for this application. This is a 5w30 motor oil. I can email you the quote from Tech support if you like.

Re:NV5600 Lube for oil change?
Thanks Mike. I called tech support yesterday when my local Redline source didn't have any MTL on hand - Zippers caters to the Harley crowd and had lots of bike oils etc in stock though. I didn't feel like waiting til next Friday so I called AMSOIL.
Had a great chat with the tech (who told me ASL is it) and I ended up pulling out the plastic and bought enough oil to spend an entire afternoon under the truck.
Just waiting for the Brown truck to drop it off.

Wow, that really stinks about them not having the Redline. Looks like i'll have to find a local source that keeps a larger stock on hand.
