Question Nv5600

Friends, my 2004 2500 manual transmission is knocking in 6th gear but not at the rpm speed. At 50 MPH, 1500 RPM it knocks (sounds like a small hammer on tin) 100 times in a minute. I've had several local guys drive it and the diagnosis is a tooth missing from the high speed 6th gear.
Any of you fellas experience this issue and if so repair results. Repair or replace transmission?

I have a fair bit of first hand experience, unfortunately. I have had teeth fragment off of 6th gear and the counter shaft. It is certainly rebuildable and there is some decent quality aftermarket replacement parts for the 5600 compared to the past.

What you have described sounds like the typical 6th gear teeth cracking and/or breaking.

Is this a common issue with the 5600?
