NV 5600 Rattle
NV 5600 Rattle
I have an 04 with the NV5600 I have 115000 miles on it. I had a SBC OFE in it for about 80000 miles and worked great.
I just replaced the clutch with the same clutch and now I have a rattle at Idle and above.Worse hot
Installed another OFE clutch and same thing.
I had the trans gone thru and still the same. If you push the clutch in it goes away or push the clutch in and out and you can make it quieter
I'm lost any advice would be of great help

After I installed a Southbend dual disk 3250, my NV5600 became noisy in neutral, clutch out, when hot. Hot from a long highway run towing 10k lbs.
It's dead quiet when cold. When it's rattling, I can raise the idle speed to 850 or higher & it gets quiet.
I've reduced it greatly by running thicker Redline MT90 (75W-90) rather than the factory Sychromesh (70W-80).
As per the G56 transmission thread, those transmissions are notorious for this gear rollover noise when hot with an aftermarket clutch.
The G56 oil spec is ATF but the 80W-140 Gorilla Juice gear oil is being used to quiet it down.
For the next change I'm considering a 50/50 mix of 75W-140 & 75W-90 to quiet things down even further.
You could try thicker gear oil in your NV5600 to see if it helps.
Be aware than you can't just use any gear oil in the NV5600. Regardless of weight, the gear oil must be specific for transmissions not for differentials.
See the Red Line Oil website for details on this: http://www.redlineoil.com/Products.aspx?pcid=7

Having the same issue with my SB Con OFE. Granted, it's been in there about 5 yrs so I can't really complain. Pedal depressed = noise gone.....pedal out = lots of clatter.....I was thinking throwout bearing....replaced it to no avail. Looks like the pressure plate is the culprit. I guess I'll tear into again later on down the road....hopefully nothing comes apart between now and then.
