I bought the 17mm Allen wrench from Sears($8) and since I really don't have any other use for it, I was thinking of cutting off the end so that I can use a 17mm socket with it. That way I can torque it and it will take up less room in the tool box.

Oh, yeah, and having the socket makes it easy to slap my torque wrench on the thing too. (Yeah, I use the torque wrench on everything that has a spec. I'm weird like that.)

TXTad- I'm with you, there's no substitute for quality. Snap-On is overpriced, but their stuff is goood. -Steve

Yeah, I use the torque wrench on everything that has a spec. I'm weird like that.
there are a few things i use a torque wrench on [like engine critical engine work, wheel lugs...]

but for fill plugs, i don't even think about it. if the spec is 20lbs, that is easy to get by hand with a spanner...

if it's something not so critical [like the junk at work] it's air ratchet tight, gun tight [1/2", 3/4", 1" drives] cause it is much quicker. if i am building up traction motor combo's that need the mounting bolts torqued to 1200lbs/ft, it's much quicker to nail the bolts with the 1" gun til it stops turning plus a few seconds... if you do torque them, it's a 2 person job with the 4x multiplier and a 3/4" torque wrench at 300lbs.. and with the floors being not so clean, it's hard to get traction to pull on the wrench
