Now Ball Joints
Now Ball Joints
I love my truck and would have no other even after 1 turbo, u-joints, ps hoses, 1 complete rear end and now ball joints. I argue that on a 4wd that ball joints should fall under DC's 70K drivetrain warranty but they aren't having any of that. Of course the joints are on national back order since everybody needs them. If I'm going to do this myself and it looks like I am, are there any quality replacement units with perhaps (don't say it....................) grease fittings and/or higher quality construction?
Looking through some old post about Ball Joints and came upon this one.
Are there any quality aftermarket ball joints?? It looks like mine are shot at 55,000.
I am going to call the dealer and argue they should be covered, but it will probably be to no avial.

What is a #53 block?
Where did it crack (got any pix)?
How many miles?
What kind of duty cycle (towing alot, a little, just commuting, etc)
Any engine/powertrain mods?

It'd be worth looking into If it means keeping your truck.

What is a #53 block?
The "53" block is a 2nd gen block. It was the casting number that was associated with some less than perfect blocks. It seems the "53" block had some issues with cracking. It doesn't affect your 2005. I had a 2000 before my '03 and checked it out back then. I was OK but I read of a few guys having problems with those blocks. I believe that block was made between the years of 98-00, but don't quote me.
