Normal engine temp

Is it normal to be running 180-200 degrees unloaded around town? I'm used to running 160 under same conditions on my 99. Any info would be appreciated.

That's normal. Mine runs 200 or just under loaded or empty.

I agee with DMiner. Mine runs just a tad bit under 200 running empty. If I get on it a little from a red light it will go over 200. I think mine is running slightly warmer now with the Ranch Hand front end possibly blocking just a little bit of airflow.

I am guessing the thermostats for the 3rd gens are set hotter than your 99 was.

Same here, 200 or a little better most all the time empty or loaded.

That 200 is the water temp right? If so the actual temp it is running at just shy of 200 is 190, According to my new gauges.

Popeyesides, I had the same concern with my truck. It consistently would run around 200* according to attitude monitor. I had heard some about thremostats not opening completly after ya got some miles on them so I replaced mine at 45K. Truck runs 192-194 at 70 on the freeway now. Not sure but I think there a 190* t-stat, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

My 2 cents
