Is this normal?
Gentlemen I have a 06 quad cab 6 speed with 920 miles on it. After the first 500 miles I started reving her out a bit. I haven't jerked it around or "dogged" it at all, just letting it eat a little. I have owned two second gens, but this is only the second 3rd gen I have driven, so here is my question. When revving it gradually right about 2000 rpm I sort of feel what is sort of a flat spot, kind of like it wants to go on, but the rev slows just a little, the revs don't back down it just slows the speed that it's revving. Mash it on down, and beyond that point it's hold on, because she starts to really open up. Is this some sort of torque management or something with the 610 motor? It is kind of annoying as 2 grand is about 60 - 65 m.p.h. in top gear with the g56, which is where I do a quite a bit of my driving. Thanks in advance for any input.
Well, I'm not an expert but I'll chime in because I notice a difference with mine also... maybe we're feeling the same thing.
My prior truck was an 02 HO, 6spd. The throttle had to be moved just slightly for a lot to happen and when it happened it felt like the change (from what I did with my foot to what the engine did) was pretty instant.
The 06 has a less sensitive throttle with fueling across a wider band (foot movement... takes more). Still pulls to 3200 RPM and so on... just different. I've got about 1200 miles on mine and I'm just chalking this up to learning how to drive it and getting used to the differences.
The 02 HO seem to respond quickly, this 06 seems to me like it "thinks" (computer talking to computer) about it. The input from my foot to the engine doesn't happen as quickly. When towing and I have the boost up, etc. and I ask for more, it's right there... it just seems to take longer (think) when going from say... 1600 RPM cruising down a city street to full throttle.
You could be feeling the difference in engines and computers and just need to get used to it.
You also could have a flat spot and need the APPS reset. If that's the case, I would have the dealer do it under warranty... just so you have it on record.
Hope this helps,
Dan

. I'm thinkin' it may be turbo lag of some sort (just shootin' from the hip here). Cuz if you drop the hammer at this point, once the turbo spools up and is making full boost (.25-.5 sec or so), hang on tight! I've floored my truck at around 1500-1600 rpm just for the sake of "testing," and I've noticed that at about 2000-2100rpm is where the turbo really starts making boost and the truck takes off. Just letting you know my thought process and why I think it's turbo lag. I could be completely off track. Either way, I think what you've got going on is normal for our rigs.
What you are all feeling is the drive by wire setup the 05's and up have. It dosen't feel anything like a vehcile with a throttle cable. My wife's 03' Max also has this setup. Takes a while to get use to. You don't get any feedback from the vibration of the go pedal either.
